During his HJ Schoo Lecture on 4 September, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever emphasised the urgent need for closer Benelux collaboration:
“This cooperation is not a romantic dream or nostalgic thought, but a political objective that is necessary for our future.”
Particularly, De Wever stressed that Article 350 of the EU Treaty allows the Benelux to integrate faster than the EU, and that the region should use it to act together on migration, the internal market, and strategic autonomy.
In light of Benelux Day on 5 September, the Benelux Business Roundtable (BBR) reiterates this call together with 27 leading CEOs and organisations, highlighting priorities such as faster permitting, stronger cross-border infrastructure, and a more competitive industrial base.
The momentum is clear: the Benelux must once again lead as a trailblazer for Europe. Join our call and support the declaration to accelerate Benelux economic integration.
